About CD INCOGNITO (2016)<...Incognito presents the multi-faceted talents of saxophonist Walter Geromet. The 11 original compositions are all surprising in their own respect by the marvellous use of polyphony. Indeed the listener is often asking the question: how many players are in this work? The fact that Geromet is able to simultaneously perform these pieces is remarkable. By adding variety of colour through his many performance skills, he renders these works unique. Only a saxophonist/composer could have written such pieces as they draw on all of the extended techniques professional players continue to develop for their instrument and then some. Voice generated sounds from breathing to humming to percussive explosions and even singing while playing combine with trumpet emboucher vibrations played without the mouthpiece to enhance the gamma of colourful sounds Geromet is able to produce.
Compositionally, he is well schooled and all of the motivic material is interesting and clear. Inspired uses of tonality, jazz, ethnic folk melodies and chant are all combined with these extended techniques to truly create something new and listener friendly. If one adds the well produced and masterful use of targeted reverb, then this is a CD full of imaginative music that transports listeners towards new discoveries. He has an intense musical career taching saxophone, composing for his intrument and participating at conventions and Festivals, as well organising others.
